translator........

Protocols are like our language..... people talking in that specific language can only understand other person talking in same locale....

like Chinese doesn't understand telugu....... in order to understand either language we need a interpreter or translator

we do something called route-redistribution

on R3: ( assuming R3 is running RIP v2 & R3 to understand EIGRP) ; here R3 get EIGRP updates from its peers( R2 & R4 ) & redistribute to RIP

router rip
version 2
redistribute eigrp 1

On R2 & R4: ( Here R2 & R4 gets RIP updates from R3 , to understand RIP updates, we redistribute RIP updates to eigrp )

router eigrp 1
redistribute rip

[/quote]its sending updates on all interface irrespective of whether ur peer / neighbor need those updates or not..... so initially in some protocols ( like VTP, Multicast) router simply floods the updates on all interfaces.....
once the downstream router reads those updates - if updates are for it...it will accept........if updates are not for it..it will send a prune messages to source router which is sending these updates

router never floods data...... 1st data pampe mundu...it traces the shortest path... & shortest path is found by running algorithm...... & parameters needed for the algorithm to run are known by these updates......
