This is not a movie promotion. Meet a real life supercop, Shivdeep Waman Lande - a 2006-batch IPS who earned quite a reputation of an upright cop during his tenure as Patna's Superintendent of Police (SP) in 2011.

An honest officer, he gave prime importance to women's safety. Any woman was free to give him a distress call on his personal mobile, should they feel threatened by any goon anywhere in Patna . Hooligans and rowdies in Patna lived under a constant fear as long this officer was in charge. He had seen adversity, being the son of a farmer, so he also used to donate a share of his salary to charity.

But let's see how the Nitish government has rewarded this officer. First he was transferred out of Patna to Araria and now he is the ADC (Aide-de-camp) of Governor of Bihar. His current work involves ..
• Keeping a diary of gov's appointments
• Accompanying and assisting him wherever he goes
• Ensuring hospitality and entertainment of guests
• Attending phone calls made to the governor
:
...well you got the picture.
And that's how Nitish' government encourages good governance.

ASHOK KHEMKA:

Ever wondered what happened to the land deals which were exposed by Ashok Khemka, for which Mr. Kejriwal took the entire credit?

Well, Mr. Khemka has received his 45th transfer following his excellent work in the case. Mr Vadra has got a clean chit and the deals have mostly resumed.
Since Mr. Khemka would never have let this happen on his watch, he was replaced by Mr. Yudhvir Khyalia A tainted officer who's reportedly been involved already in a 'registration scam' in his state and is charged with sexual harassment. He came in and did the needful, restored deals in two villages and got things moving again ... for everyone involved.

AAP founder Mr. Ashwani Upadhyaya reveals that Mr. Yudhbir gave a cleat chit to Vadra, restored his licenses and filed a charge-sheet against Mr. Khemka.

As a reward for undoing Khemka's hard work, Mr Yudhvir was offered a Lok Sabha ticket from Aam Aadmi Party (since a ticket from Congress would've been visible as too direct a reward). He took a voluntary retirement, a year before he was to retire and is in the fray from a party that claims to be a certifying authority in honesty.

Change in politics? It’s here.

Palam-Kalyanasundaram-Iyya1.jpg

TN activist Palam Kalyanasundaram remained a bachelor so that he could dedicate his life to the poor.

Thin, frail, emaciated and sporting a shy smile, Palam Kalyanasundaram looks like your next-door neighbour’s old, but affectionate grandpa. Once you get to talk to him, the fire and determination in him shines forth through his words. He speaks in a childlike manner, and his voice, too, is high-pitched, but as you listen, you are awestruck at the yeoman service he has done for humanity. He has received several awards and has donated Rs 30 crore of prize money he got from these honours.

Born at Melakarivelamkulam in Thirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, Kalyanasundaram lost his father at a very young age. It was hismother who inspired him to serve the poor.

A will to serve humanity has been 73-year-old Kalyanasundaram’s guiding principle throughout his life. A gold medalist in library science, he also holds a masters degree in literature and history. During his 35-year-long career at Kumarkurupara Arts College at Srivaikuntam, he diligently and willingly donated his salary month after month towards charity and did odd jobs to meet his daily needs. Even after retirement, he worked as a waiter in a hotel in exchange for two meals a day and a meagre salary so that he could continue to donate to orphanages and to children’s educational funds.

He was amply rewarded for his service to humanity. The Union government acclaimed him as the best librarian in India. The International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, has honoured him as one of the ‘noblest of the world’ and the United Nations adjudged him as one of the most outstanding people of the 20th century. He also received Man of the Millenium award and Life Time of Service Award from Rotary Club of India in 2011.

“People think that I started doing charity when I was young by donating clothes and helping people study, and they attribute it to a public cause, but I insist it was for a private one. The place where I lived was a tiny village with no provision for roads, buses, schools, electricity, and there was not even a shop to buy a matchbox from. I had to walk 10km to school and back and walking all that way alone can be a pretty lonesome experience. Hence, I had this thought that if I could motivate most of the children to come with me to school, it would be great fun as well.”

Kalyanasundaram says with a twinkle in his eye. “In those days, children could not afford to pay school fees which were around Rs5. I offered to pay their school fees, got them books and clothes as well.”

Kalyanasundaram says money does not impress him at all. “One can get money in three possible ways. First, through earnings; secondly, through parents’ earnings, and thirdly, through money donated by someone. But there’s nothing more fulfilling than being able to donate money for charity out of your own earnings.”

Palam Kalyanasundaram lives a simple life all on his own in a small house in Saidapet, Chennai. He never married for the simple reason that he did not want to spend all that he earned on charity. Even today, he comes to office at Adyar regularly and does whatever he can for the uplift of the underprivileged people.

India's Poorest Chief MInister: Mr Manik Sarkar

CSC_0823.JPG

Of many honest persons I am writing today about Mr Manik Sarkar, Chief Minister, Tripura.

He has been elected consecutively for fourth term as Chief Minister. First some facts about this great person.

1. He is the poorest but Purest Chief Minister of India.
2. He has been elected as chief minister consecutively for fourth term
3. He doesn’t own a home;
4. His bank balance is Rs. 6500/-
5. He donates all his salary to CPI (M), and party gives him sustenance allowance of Rs 5000/- month.
6. His wife never uses official vehicle and can very easily be seen on Rickshaw in Agartala.
7. Even his worst opponents admit that Manik Sarkar is an impeccably honest man, certainly a rare variety among politicians today.

Now, compare these with other chief ministers or politicians, who have assets worth crores of rupees!

Apart from honesty, Mr Manik Sarkar has been impetuous for the development of the state which includes better connectivity and development of IT sector in state. He was also responsible for bringing the concept of public-private partnership and invigorated private intervention, particularly in the IT sector.

I think he demands nothing from us but some respect and a little bit recognition.
