It's a setback for us. The UN tribunal has given a judgement in favour of Bangladesh, giving away approximately 20,000 sq Km of disputed sea territory to it.
(the dispute was filed by Bangladesh in Oct 2009. The decision is final and binding on both nations. Can't be reappealed)

Bangladesh can now call international oil exploration in the area as it gains exclusive economic rights in a 1,18,813sq km area.
Of the 28 identified oil blocks, the majority have been bagged by Bangladesh.Oil & Natural reserves were detected in the region by ONGC which now goes to Bangladesh.
Indian oil firms will have to withdraw and wait for Bangladesh's permission for any further activity in the area.

Bangladeshi fishermen can carry on fishing in high seas, whereas the Indian fishermen won't be allowed in those areas of deep fishing pockets either. This will reduce their share of fish harvest in the area. (The total collection of fish from the Bay is around 6 million tonnes annually).

Bangladesh had won a similar case against territorial claims of Myanmar. makes one suspect the influence of bigger powers which are now trying to gain influence in Bangladesh.
