Hyderabad, Nov. 22:

The National Association for Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) has pegged exports of $50 billion from the IT industry in Hyderabad by the year 2025.

Last year, the industry in the city registered exports of $10 billion, contributing 13 per cent to national IT exports.

The association said the industry provides jobs to 4.5 lakh people directly. “It provides about 10 lakh indirect jobs in sectors that are dependent on the IT and BPO industry,” B V R Mohan Reddy, Vice-Chairman of Nasscom and Executive Chairman of Cyient (formerly Infotech Enterprises), said.

Commemorating its 25th anniversary on Friday evening, the association held a meeting with top executives of the industry, representatives of venture capital firms, policymakers and other stakeholders to reminisce about the journey and chalk out strategies for the next 25 years.

Addressing the gathering, the Nasscom Vice-Chairman said the industry in Hyderabad had made a mark globally. “Twenty per cent of all employees in the IT industry hail from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This shows the importance of the local industry,” he said.

In the last 25 years, the national IT industry had grown from a few million dollars to $120 billion, contributing significantly to the economy.

Start-up economy

He said the Hyderabad ecosystem helped the start-ups thrive. “About 200 start-ups have been set up since 2010, with a focus on big data, enterprise solutions and social media, attracting about $30 million worth of investments,” Mohan Reddy said.
