Nikon Optical Zoom World Record - Video Test On Moon

A video taken on Nikon’s Coolpix P900 that zooms-in to apparently capture the movement of the Moon has gone viral on YouTube. German nature-lover Lothar Lenz used the camera’s 83x optical zoom lens to capture the stunning sight. The P900 costs $600, and has the same field of view as a 2,000mm lens on a full-frame camera.

As others have accurately pointed out, what the camera actually captures is the Earth’s rotation. The Moon orbits the Earth in the prograde (same) direction, and completes one rotation in about 28 days—hence the sidereal lunar month. You can find more details on the camera...
