GUNTUR: The Theme Project to be developed by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) will come up at Kondaveedu in Guntur district. Its ground-breaking ceremony will be on October 22, the day foundation-stone would be laid for capital city by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to have given his consent to the ISKCON representatives based in Delhi to commence the project works with his hands.

As per the `500 crore project, ISKCON is going to construct a unique golden temple of Lord Krishna on a Swan design near Kondaveedu Fort of Guntur district.

With the state government handing over 38 acres of land as against about 58 acres of land on lease basis for a period of 99 years, the ISKCON authorities, who already established a cow protection centre in an area of 10 acres, are now making arrangements for performing ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the golden temple of Krishna on the auspicious day of Vijayadasami on October 22.
“Following a representation from ISKCON society to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to lay foundation-stone for the construction of Amaravathi on the same day, he expressed his willingness to participate in the ground-breaking ceremony of our golden temple,’’ Satya Gopinath Das, project director, told Express.

Explaining about the project further, he said that the rare idol of young Krishna (Venna Mudda Gopaludu), which was found by the Archeology Department during their excavations in the ancient Kondaveedu Fort, would be installed in the golden temple.

Apart from the golden temple, ISKCON is also proposing to set up Bhakti Vedanta Swamy Vedic University, Bhakti Vedanta Care Home for housing aged persons, Bhakti Vedanta Vedic Exhibition to preach Krishna consciousness through diorama exhibits as part of the `500 crore theme project in the historic Kondaveedu area.
