Telangana to take up construction of Game Tower

HYDERABAD: The IT, electronics and communications department has decided to take up the long-pending construction of a Game Tower at Game City located in the Hyderabad Knowledge City at Raidurg village in Serilingampally mandal. It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 300 crore.

Since the department lacks manpower, machinery and experience, it has requested the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) to select a suitable architectural consultant to provide designs and services to the department.

"There has been overwhelming response for Request for Proposal (RFP) from architects and designers. Seventeen proposals have been received for the Game Tower. The consultants will be finalised within a week," TSIIC chief general manager A Lakshmikanth Reddy told TOI.

Officials said the Game Tower will have about 5.60 lakh square feet (sq ft) of space and will come up in 6.23 acres of land already earmarked for this purpose in Hyderabad Knowledge City. Of the total proposed space, 2.8 lakh sq ft are expected to be used for animation and gaming processing laboratories and studios for live action and motor capture, production and out-sourcing wings, and an academy of animation and gaming. The remaining space is proposed for housing animation and gaming companies. Common facilities such as a front office, business centre, cafeteria and dining would be part of the structure.

The Game Tower will also have sound stages, a chroma key facility that will provide special effects and post-production capabilities for merging of different layers of video, auditoria, pre-function areas and green rooms.

Plans are also on to construct T-Hub (phase II) close to the Game Tower. The TSIIC has received 14 bids for its construction. The second phase of the T-Hub will have about 3.25 lakh square feet and will provide space for start-ups expected to contribute to local employment generation.
