Hello Everyone,

Here is the story of our son Tej. He was born in june 2014

Tej failed all his hearing tests done in the first 6 months. Went for ABR test, and got confirmed that he has profound sensory hearing loss in both ears.

He went for 1st cochlear implant surgery in June 2015 (after his 1st birthday); the surgery was a failure.

He went for 2nd cochlear implant surgery in Aug 2015; got activated in Oct 2015, after few days Tej’s right part of the face got paralyzed. Went for scanning and found that the right implant was placed in the wrong location. Again the surgery was a failure.

He went for 3rd cochlear implant surgery in Feb 2016; to fix the right implant. As of now, he has 18months of activated left ear implant and 12months of activated right ear implant, still NO improvement. (All Cochlear Implants are not successful)

He started behaving differently after his 2nd birthday like (Stimming) banging his head, biting/hurting himself, flapping his hands, tip-toe, running around house and staying in his own world all the time, there was no eye contact, no social interaction and seeking sensory input all the time. But Doctors keep on saying it might be because of his hearing impairment.

Recently, in Feb 2017, he got diagnosed with Autism - Severity Level 3.  As everyone knows autism is life-long disability which doesn't have any cure.

At present, Tej is receiving Speech, Occupational and Feeding Therapy. Therapists recommend Tej to have minimum of 1300 hrs/year of ABA therapy, but insurance covers only for 230 hrs/year. Each 1 hour session costs 150$.  ($160k/year out of pocket)

Also, we attended the Son-Rise Start Up program, which changed our way of thinking and gave more confidence. We want to take Tej to next level Son-Rise Intensive program (cost - $18.4k). Based on Tej’s progress, we may have to take this Intensive program more than once. Also, want to do Bio-Medical treatment and GAPS diet for Tej.

When we came to know that Tej was deaf, we thought at least he can hear with implants and have a good life. But, Autism is something different, we are still trying to digest it and we have been praying for a miracle. Hearing impairment with Autism is making it much more difficult. We want Tej to be independent adult after us.

We need your support with ABA therapy and Son-Rise Intensive program. We ask for your donation to continue on this journey. Big or small, every little bit counts.

Thanks In Advance,
Praveen and Shravani
