Whatever movie Pawan Kalyan does generates huge hype. "Katamarayudu" is remake of Tamil hit "Veeram" that also got dubbed into Telugu as "Veerudokkade". Yet, the Pawan Kalyan starrer has been making waves with so great buzz.

The trailers are pretty decent too. How has the remake fared? Let's find out?

Story:
In a Rayalaseema village, Katamarayudu (Pawan Kalyan) is a sort of good leader to the villagers and he uses violence to settle disputes.

He hates of idea of marriage and remains bachelor, while his four brothers have girlfriends. They hatch a plan to make his brother fall in love with Avanthi (Shruti Haasan). He indeed falls for her beauty.

The trouble is her father (Nasser) doesn't like any person who indulges in violence. To win the love, Katamarayudu renounces violence but soon he comes to know that revenge-seeking convict (Tarun Arora) is hatching plan to kill Avanthi’s father who is retired judge.

How Katamarayudu who came to Avanthi’s village to win her love becomes savior of their family is told in rest of the movie.

Artistes’ Performances:
Pawan Kalyan is in terrific form - right from his attire to exhibiting histrionics, he got it right. He has showcased two shades - a violent Katamrayudu and a loveable person. In both shades of the character, he has given his best but he is in better in the getup of violent person.

Shruti Haasan has totally got it wrong, her look and dresses are not at all good. She should also take care of her face that is lacking sheen.

Rao Ramesh has once given best performance in the role of Narsappa. Though his role is serious one, his characterization provides good laughs and his rayalaseema slang is too good.

Ali's comedy is stale and Prudhvi has not got much role. The four brothers played by Chaitanya Krishna, Kamal Kamaraju, Ajay and Siva Balaji are okay.

Tarun Arora as main villain is that apt. Nasser as Shruti’s father is apt for such roles.

Technical Excellence:
The film has competent technical and production values. Prasad Murella who filmed "Attharintiki Daaredi" beautifully has come up with rich visuals here too. His filming of rustic green visuals as well as barren land of Rayalaseema is good.

Ram - Lakshman's fights are good but they are lengthy. One fight in particularly is excellent when Pawan Kalyan is asked by his villagers to show off his fighting skills in panche.

Anup Ruben’s music is very weak except 'Mira Mira Meesam' rest doesn't cut the ice. Artwork, editing and production values are decent. Dialogues are good in parts.

Highlights:
Pawan Kalyan
First half
Fights

Drawbacks:
Lack of novelty
Lengthy second half
Not so catchy songs
Shruti’s appearance

Analysis:
Pawan Kalyan got his hands burnt by writing a silly script called "Sardaar Gabbar Singh" last year. To play the safe game, he has chosen a Tamil hit movie called Ajith starrer “Veeram” and handed over it to Kishore Kumar Pardasani aka Dolly to remake it into “Katamarayudu”.

The story of the movie has no novelty but has enough elements to make it into an entertaining masala drama. But the director seems to have changed the story a bit and also screenplay of the original movie to suit the image of Pawan Kalyan.

The narration he has come up in the first half is decent but the grip is lost post interval.

Before the interval, the focus is on establishing Pawan Kalyan in different manner and projecting him in manly way in his rather new get up.

The stress is also on the aspect of how a person who hates the idea of marriage gets melted with the arrival of a beautiful woman. The love proposal scene is hilarious. Though the scenes go on predictable manner, they don’t bore us in the first half.

There isn’t much problem before interval but trouble begins from the interval bang.

Right from the first scene in the second half, the story and narrative drive have gone on wrong path. A tough guy like Katamarayudu coming to heroine’s village and trying to impress her father is nice idea. But what happens from there is totally clichéd.

A villain trying to take revenge on a judge for declaring his father guilty in a case is such 70’s idea. Also Nasser fighting for a school building place in a small village is silly.

The climax episode of Pawan Kalyan telling why he stood behind the family of Shruti and Nasser is told in beaten to death manner.

While the movie is far better than “Sardaar Gabbar Singh” with hero Pawan Kalyan looking damn good and has come up with better performance, the drive is quite predictable.

Where the director Kishore has succeeded in the movie is in bringing out best from Pawan Kalyan, and rich taking style. Where he has failed is not adding any novelty in the second half.

A mass-hero movie should have better music, interesting second half and glamourous heroine. In “Katamarayudu”, all these three are lacking in.

Anup Rubens has completely failed to understand what one expects from a big star like Pawan Kalyan. Also Shruti Haasan has failed to take the care of her looks and her attire.

All in all, “Katamarayudu” has fairly interesting first half and Pawan Kalyan in better form but the story and narration have too clichéd.

Bottom-line: Clichéd Rayudu!

Whenever there is a Pawan Kalyan film coming up, there is a massive buzz all over. After the debacle of Sardaar, Pawan Kalyan is now back with Katamarayudu which has hit the screens all over today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:-

Rayudu(Pawan Kalyan) and his four brothers live a happy life in their village. A strict and serious Rayudu does not marry as he feels that if a girl enters his family, there would be problems between him and his brothers.

On the other hand, all his four brothers are in love and want to get married soon. Knowing that in order for them to get married, they will have to convince Rayudu to marry first as he is the elder one. All of them get together, and make a plan and contact Avanti(Shruthi Haasan) to somehow woo their brother.

When things seem to be going fine, Shruthi Haasan’s family is suddenly targeted by Bhanu(Tarun Arora). Who is this Bhanu? What does he have to do with Avanti’s family? How does Rayudu save everyone? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-

Pawan Kalyan is undoubtedly the biggest attraction of Katamarayudu. He perfectly suits the elder brother’s character and carries the entire film on his shoulders. Right from Pawan’s traditional look to his classy dialogues, the star hero does full justice and impresses in an author backed role.

Shruthi Haasan is perfectly cast as Pawan’s love interest and all her romantic scenes with him are hugely entertaining. The first half has some decent comedy, romance and slick action sequences making the proceedings quite interesting.

Pawan’s chemistry with all his brothers is also very good. Shiva Balaji and others do their supporting roles quite well. Ali is good with his comedy during the first half.

Minus Points:-

The interval bang is just about okay and does not have much depth. The story of the film is quite routine and has some predictable scenes throughout the film. Things get disappointing during the second half as too many fights and dull emotions disappoint things a bit.

Anup Ruben’s music is the biggest disappointment for the film as none of his songs impress one bit and even come as speed breakers in the second half. There are not many twists during the second half as the film becomes quite slow during this time.

In spite of doing a superb job, Rao Ramesh’s role has been wasted in the film. The second half has no proper conflict of interest between the hero and villain as Tarun Arora looks pretty weak in front of Pawan’s star status.

Technical Aspects:-

Production values of the film are pretty good as Sharad Marar has spent decent money which shows on screen. The camerawork is top notch as the village visuals and Pawan Kalyan are showcased supremely well. Editing is below average as at least two fights in the second half could have been trimmed down. Dialogues are good and suit Pawan’s body language quite well.

Coming to the director Dolly, he has done a decent job with the film. After filling the first half with some very entertaining moments, he disappoints during the second half. His screenplay takes a beating during this time as the proceedings are filled with only stylish action sequences. Had he brought a bit more depth in the family emotions, things would have been even better.

Verdict:-

On the whole, Katamarayudu is a treat for all Pawan Kalyan fans. The star hero’s emotional performance, traditional look, and superb fun during the first half are huge assets for the film. Katamarayudu is bound to do well among the masses but we need to see how the film fares in the overseas market. If you ignore the routine story line and a slightly dull second half, Katamarayudu is one film which ends up as a decent watch this summer.
