lazybugger
how do people think rich countries got rich? by playing the free market game? haha.. that's where everybody in countries like India, mexico etc are being taken for a ride. rich countries got rich by protecting their markets, by stifling their consumers, by rationing all resources, including land. Norway found oil. sweden was a manufacturing powerhouse. Finland exported its wood and pulp, and then Nokia. Now all these countires, especially Sweden, Finland are centers for hi-tech. Finland especially spends the highest on public R&D as percentage of their GDP. As for dutch, they are at another level. Even though they stuck gas off their coast, they saw a period of lull in other sectors, which they then picked up after Philips was divided and now they are the biggest sellers of semiconductor making machines in the world. UK was a manufacturing powerhouse even until the 1980s. It still manufactures lots of hi tech components, but british brands have all but disappeared, except in aerospace. They cornered their market through protectionism. all these countries. US did that too. Now everybody preaches free market capitalism, but not a single country became rich following that model. One blockbuster company is enough to give jobs to half of their working population.

India unable to flex its muscles, because India hasn't graduated beyond textiles, and petrochemicals, and to an extent automobiles (but that's foreign companies operating here) The reason is lack of expertise, lack of infra, lack of labour laws, but allowing foreign imports on many items that can be manufactured in the country. beyond all this, lack of technical skills of the owner class (upper class) is the biggest reason. small business funds are unavailable for those with skill, and those that can access it (upper caste) do not have the skill, and exploit those with skill with abandon. The drug cluster that developed in Hyd is the best example of how to develop indigenous companies with local expertise. That's the only good thing to come out of India in a long long time.
