Was planning to go to TGIF last night from uppal. Ola cost was  showing Rs 492. Uber was Rs. 450. We were planning to take cab as we know we will get drink more than the limit.

Used metro from Uppal to begumpet, 45 Rs per ticket. Form begumpet to TGIF, 80 Rs. So we were able to reach TGIF within an hour for Rs.170 Instead of atleast 450.

Uppal-Begumpet it took exactly 29 minutes

Congestion in Hyderabad metro trains, commuters suffer hardship

HYDERABAD: With place not even enough to stand, and over-crowded trains literally resulting in suffocation, metro train travel in the city is turning out to be a nightmarish experience for commuters.

Forget being able to grab a seat, families trying to get the metro ride experience for the first time on Sunday found it was difficult even to find space to stand.

With passengers getting in at every metro station, it was jostling for not just space but even to catch hold of the grab pole so that one would not fall. The aged, women and children are finding it most difficult.

Despite being aware of the packed conditions of the trains, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad does not seem to be sensing the need to operate more trains. During a recent meeting, Municipal administration minister K T Rama Rao had also suggested to the metro rail authorities to increase the number of trains considering the rush.

The situation was worse for parents who had brought infants for a train ride.
A three-coach metro train can carry 965 passengers. In each coach there is longitudinal seating for 40 passengers. Which means, in each of the trains, there is seating for only 120 passengers. This means that 845 passengers can travel standing. If that is how many passengers are travelling, the space calculation may just not be right. Or else, there may be more than the number of stipulated standing passengers.

Metro rail authorities are operating a limited number of trains since the commercial operations started on November 29. Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi had inaugurated the metro rail on November 28. The trains are being operated on two corridors, one between Nagole and Ameerpet, and the second between Ameerpet and Miyapur.

On the first day itself, a record two lakh passengers were said to have travelled by the metro trains. The trains are being operated at an interval of 15 minutes from 6 am to 10 pm.

Though the metro train is arriving full at many of the stations, especially during peak hours every day, more passengers are being allowed to get into it by the metro rail staff on the platforms. This is because they do not have a clue about the packed conditions inside the train coach.

As a result of the congestion inside the trains, commuters are also getting into arguments as they cannot reach the doors to exit the train. Since the train stops only for 20 seconds at each station, brushing against passengers and pushing them aside have become too common an occurrence in the trains.

Hyderabad Metro continues to break records

There is a considerable change in passenger behaviour at the Metro stations too.

By AuthorTelanganaToday | Published: 10th Dec 2017 11:46 pm Updated: 11th Dec 2017 12:23 am

Hyderabad: A whopping 19 lakh passengers have traveled in Metro trains in the last 13 days since its launch on November 29, setting yet another national record in patronage.

On Sunday, authorities said nearly 1.75 lakh passengers traveled in the Metro Rail services while on Saturday Metro registered a patronage of 1.40 lakh passengers.

Passengers continued to throng the Metro stations and in an effort to make things convenient for passengers, extra ticket counters were operated at Miyapur and few other stations.

“Even after two years of operations, Chennai Metro registers a ridership of about 25,000 passengers a day,” said Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director NVS Reddy.

There is a considerable change in passenger behaviour at the Metro stations too. Majority of the passengers, especially those who are not familiar with using escalators and automatic door closures, were fast learning about the Metro rules and travelling in the trains without any inconvenience, said Reddy

Don’t quarrel on Metro or hang around, you’ll be fined

Amrita Didyala | TNN | Dec 11, 2017, 05:32 IST

HYDERABAD: If a co-passenger gets on your nerves, it's advisable to be patient till you get out of the Metro station. Yes, quarrelling is a punishable offence and can attract a penalty of Rs 500, forfeiture of pass or ticket. You may as well be bundled out of the coach. Sitting on the floor can draw similar penalties and hanging around at stations for over an hour may land you in jail for 3 months with a fine. In fact, there is a long list of offences which can get one behind bars.

A commuter learnt it the hard way. "I was hanging around at Ameerpet station and waiting for a friend. Suddenly, cops rushed towards me and asked me to quickly leave or face action," he said.

Other offences on the Metro include obstructing running of trains, walking on the Metro line, unlawful entry, writing or pasting on coaches. Also, if you are about to be removed from the coach for committing an offence and you resist, you will be slapped with a fine of Rs 1,000 or imprisonment of up to 6 months. Carrying dangerous materials and obstructing trains are other top offences that attract a maximum penalty of Rs 5000 and imprisonment up to 4 years.
