is ur wages on w2 or 1099? if 1099 then travel expenses, meals, and other expenses ettu.

Talk to a proper CPA who can sit with you and explain. 

Neeku 8K kattali ante, may be your withholding were too low. 

Check what your total federal and state with holdings are year to date in W2. Calculate how much % you paid so far.

Now check - acc to your wage scale, what Federal tax bracket and stater bracket you fall under. If your withholding (tax paid) is low you owe. 

CPA comes in to place mainly to customize and educate you what can be a risky thing to do and what is not (if you were to enter the grey area)
