H4 EAD news April 9, 2018 – Fifteen members of the U.S. Congress wrote a joint letter to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristjen Nielson in March 2018. They urged her to reconsider the department’s plan to terminate the program that allows certain H-4 spouses to obtain H4 EAD.
 

Letter Highlights the Importance of H-4 EAD Program to Families

A proposed rule to end the H-4 EAD program has been delayed until June 2018. However, a letter, signed by U.S. Congressional members from California, argues that terminating the H-4 EAD program would create significant financial hardship and uncertainty for many highly skilled professionals and their families. Furthermore, the letter emphasized, H-4 spouses help the U.S. economy to grow. Moreover, many H-4 spouses employ U.S. citizens through starting their own companies. Therefore, the letter argues, ending the program would also result in the loss of jobs for Americans.
