his mistake was that being a congress man and true indian 

he found merit in vajpayee and subramania swamy  and gave a portfolio to subramania swamy though he is from BJP

and he had sent vajpayee to represent india UN meeting in geneva 

and them destruction of babri mosque in ayodhya is his biggest fault which caused religious in tolerance .

and his economic and financial reforms made indian economy stable and competing with  world economies till date .
