revisiting this movie now, its clear how young people can be taken in by beautifully crafted abstractions on freedom of human spirit, to turn fascist.

Almost every friend of mine who loved this movie in 2009 is a Modi supporter now, which is exactly the type of authoritarianism this movie critiques. And they still hold this movie as example for what will happen if they let their guard down. They still love it.

While I don't, now. I think its silly.

How naive was I to think that humans craved for freedom, for greatness

Ofcourse they don't. They crave for slavery to a system that they are comfortable with. They crave for mediocrity. nationalism, casteism, regionalism, linguism all feeds into these insecurities to create hellholes we call society today.

so how should these slaves be treated? Do they deserve to be treated with respect, or disdain?

Its something that's been eating me for a long while.

An uppercaste asshole watching this movie, will take away that its the uppercastes who are prevented from reaching greatness, because they are not being allowed to gouge on public money, the way they were used to before.

It won't even cross his mind that the one in chains - literally, and figuratively, is the one he mocks everyday for being different from him.

The original author Kurt Vonnegut was a leftist. He clearly preferred socialism/communism as the better alternative to social darwinism pushed by the American political mainstream, by both parties.

But his work is used to paint socialism as evil. lol.

let me make it tougher, you live in a multiracial society, and you notice that some races do better than others, it's not only you that's noticing these differences, you belong to a race that is seen to be the most successful, the racial groups that are doing worse have formed powerful political lobbies against the race that is doing the best, yours, and is blaming them for their lack of successes, and share of misfortunes, you try all sorts of methods to even things out, including outright redistributing the fruits of your race's successes to them to the point where it could accurately be stated that your racial group is primarily living to support the members of other races, but none work to close the gaps, and none do anything to assuage the ever increasing hatred being directed towards the members of your race, until you realize that the differences are not due to a conspiracy by the successful race, but by the biological differences between the races, biological differences you cannot even mention without becoming the very image of all that is evil in the eyes of the less successful, but politically influential racial groups, and no one outside of these racial groups will even be permitted to listen to you without also becoming a representative of evil, finally, anyone who refuses to punish you for your statements will be deemed evil and thus punished as well. The situation is becoming dire, as you have also realized that the races lobbying against yours, are also committing racially motivated acts of violence towards members of your race, and their crimes are not only being hidden from the public by your media, and lied about by the media for crimes which are too prominent to be hidden, but that the perpetrators are getting away with these crimes with the help of your justice system, and those within the justice system who attempt to apply justice to them are being deemed evil. to make the situation even more complicated, there are racial groups who are more successful than your own, but whose success cannot be mentioned without becoming evil, one of these racial groups routinely impersonates your racial group for the purposes of escalating the hatred directed towards it, and attempts to bring more of the races which are hostile to your race into contact with your race, fanning the flames of their hatred whenever they have the opportunity, none of this can be mentioned without becoming evil as well. being evil can get you prosecuted by the state, demonized by the public, ostracized by your friends, rejected by your lover, disowned by your family, and attacked by violent criminals, sometimes people of your race are deemed evil due to an accident on their part, or just randomly declared evil without any warning and on frivolous grounds, sometimes, your entire race is accused of being evil for little to no reason, in all these cases, the accusation is automatically taken as the proof, questioning an accusation of evil, is itself grounds for being declared evil. so, what do you do?
