There is nothing wrong in being Positive, but looking at current politics in the country it would take a miracle to get this bill passed. Government is not looking for patches, its looking for immigration overhaul. Merit based will come into picture sooner or later. Temp patches may provide only temp reliefs but not a solution to the already broken immigration system. Being irrational to illegal immigrants that they get the residency easily and we won't will not to good to any. In obama era Comprehensive Immigration BIll was announced, unfortunately legal immigration was a tiny part of it. Although government says that they are up for Legal immigration, in case of immigration reform they look legal and illegal alike. Americans are losing jobs to offshoring too. They have families to feed too. I think we with the current world scenario, we have to move on from the argument that they can't get other jobs or are not good at IT. This statement is the thing of past.  For h1b community the last best chance was getting the flag post moved for Primary applicant 140 -EAD (not h4 ead in this context). Although, one can argue that USCIS has been counting the visa numbers wrong (as cited by Cyrus Mehta), there isn't much we can do about it.

As someone here said we literally have no rights although we are paying taxes. Equality goes both ways. No country will disband its citizens in favor or immigrants. I'm kinda surprised you haven't followed the public sentiment in last election. The sentimental view are inline with Brexit Populist Views.
