No one should or can laugh at anyone else, that's just ridiculous. Some people are privileged like me, I don't disagree. I do appreciate the opportunities I got. In a race, one needs to encourage the slow runners. But, I wouldn't want to slow down the fastest runner in a race. you should have a basic understanding of economics. communism/socialism is the natural progression for a capitalist society. Its not about 'helping the weak at the expense of the strong'. Marx was not a social justice warror.
Ashtavakra
everyone must be fed, whether they work or not, must be clothed, and must be housed. must have access to free healthcare. beyond that, lets have competition.
DrBeta
You must be speaking from your side of the coin. I was never rich, but thankfully, I never had to struggle for my next meal. I have definitely done better under pressure, strived better, competing. Having said that I understand not everyone gets equal opportunities, but I think people should still work towards a better future than expect to be given it for free. I won't be surprised though. lot of libertarians have this exact view. Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, everyone believes that competition is a bad thing. Competition is for losers. The winner just choses his own path. except the 'path' here is govt largesse that these freedom seeking billionaires are out for. its not building a supercomputer from scratch with spare computer parts to run your genome analysis. sarita
I don't know abt your IQ but u have a '0' EQ you should read this article https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2017/05/mark-zuckerbergs-speech-as-written-for-harvards-class-of-2017/ " I know lots of people who haven’t pursued dreams because they didn’t have a cushion to fall back on if they failed." -Mark
Ashtavakra
humans are weak both physically and mentally. Yes, humanity will benefit scientifically by providing them a safe space where they get basic stuff. why do you think technology exploded after 1950s? Its purely a function of how much money govt spent on education, safety nets, healthcare, etc. Its not because of 'competition'. If competition is the thing, mobile networks would have a 1000 differnt standards, and internet wouldn't exist without opensource collaborative movement. DrBeta
I agree with you, having a roof under one's head, three meals a day and educated parents is in itself a huge privilege that not everyone gets. But one still needs to struggle to maintain that. Now having said that, I would still be supportive of cheaper education, which a lot of schools still do, only if you put in the effort. I just don't think people should be given anything for free, when they are not putting an effort towards it. Otherwise, there won't be much of a motivation to work harder. Ashtavakra
but things are improving.. last visit to india - specifically TN, showed me atleast 10 libraries where people could sit down and read for the whole day in Chennai. and atleast 3 in every district. a lot of them airconditioned. I noticed a lot of youngsters preparing for UPSC in those libraries, but I hope somewhere someone is using those resources for forging his own path. yes, its possible only if these things are 'free', and don't have to be paid for. If I was to run as Chennai Mayor (which I hope I will), I'm promising free public housing, public transport, and public toilet facilities, and a library in every ward, and a health care center. yeah, I will dismantle the metro, and sell its stock at half the price, pay off the debtors Metro is useless. Do you want Science to improve or do you want people to 'fight' for their stuff, so they can build 'character' or some such sh1t. because you can't have both. Science benefits with less competition. Commerce benefits with more competition. which one do you want? Science of Commerce?

Ashtavakra
and yeah, the commerce benefitting with more competition (ideal market scenario) leads to less competition. yes, that is what Marx has predicted, and he's not been proven wrong yet. they just have invented financial instruments to get around communism to keep capitalism alive by pumping more an more money into people and sectors they like.
