Visakhapatnam: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its efforts to strengthen the party in Andhra Pradesh was trying to rope in megastar Chiranjeevi into its fold. The party’s leaders belonging to the Kapu community had a meeting with the film star on Monday night towards this in Hyderabad, it was learnt. The BJP leadership was ready to make Chiranjeevi its AP State president if he expressed his willingness to join the party, it was said.

Chiranjeevi, who was made Rajya Sabha member and Tourism Minister in the UPA government after he merged his Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress, did not campaign for the latter during the recent general elections though he was made a ‘star campaigner’ of the party. He was said to be busy with his upcoming movie ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ after his Rajya Sabha term ended last year. Nor did he extend any support his younger brother who was in the thick of elections through Jana Sena Party.

 

BJP which successfully lured four Rajya Sabha members from the TDP recently as part of its efforts to make the party the main opposition and alternative to the YSRC in the State, was trying to enroll as many leaders as possible from not only the TDP but also the Congress.
