Cow is pretty obvious.

 

there is life(considered as kids)  on earth and so Earth/Land is assigned feminism. So, Bhumatha, Bharata Matha,...

 

There is no life on Moon, Sun and other planets and so they were given male names. Chandrudu, Suryudu, Bhudhudu, Sukrudu, ...
