This could be in pipeline to target the 2024 elections.

It is a hugely emotive issue.

It would have impact on not just central govt but also on respective state govt.

 

Imagine identifying and maintaining a register of Indian citizens. 

This would help identify and root out any illegals settling inside India.

 

The immediate impact of this would be on every state working on this and acknowledging that a particular person is indeed a citizen.

This would root out any illegals. If there is any hanky panky, the locals themselves would rise up and rile - meaning any state govt botching it would take huge electoral hit.

 

Another significant aspect of the bill is providing citizenship to illegals Pakistan, Bangladesh & Afghanistan who belong to Dharmic religions.

 

So, it has 2 angles.

1. Let the state locals root out the illegals.

2. Provide Dharmic illegal immigrants citizenship and rights to stay in India.

 

Political hot potato.

Who stands where on this will depend on the state wise composition of muslim population and illegals.

West Bengal & Assam with huge Bangladesh illegals would become a cauldron for sure.
