Ahmedabad: Preparations for the much awaited visit of US President Donald Trump is in full swing in Ahmedabad and extra precaution is being taken to ensure that everything is in order. After a wall that is being built in the city to keep a slum cluster out of sight of the US president, now health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has sealed three paan shops at the airport circle.

This is being done so that the all roads and walls around the airport remain absolutely clean and spotless. After sealing the shops, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said that if the shopkeeper tries to remove the seal, legal actions will be taken against them.

An AMC official of the north zone told The Times Of India that the customers used to throw cigarette butts and spit pan-masala everywhere, so it was difficult to keep the area clean if the shops were allowed to run.

“We have decided to seal the shops till further order,” said an AMC official.

Well, there’s more! Even the street dogs are getting caged by the concerned authorities, according to sources.

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Gujarat on February 24. He will visit the famous Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and take part in a roadshow with Modi.

After that, the two leaders will inaugurate a new cricket stadium in Motera and address a gathering there, with an expected audience of over a lakh people.

Now officials have come up with clarification...No Paan Shops have been sealed.

No Paan Shops Shut, Clarifies AMC Commissioner Day After Reports on Preparation for Trump Visit

A report stated that the municipal corporation has sealed three paan shops at the airport circle. It added a wall has been erected in the city to keep slums off the sight of the US President.

Ahmedabad: After certain reports claimed that the paan shops in the city had been sealed to prep up for Donald Trump's visit, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra on Wednesday clarified that no such development had taken place and the US President's impending visit had not affected any services.

"There are thousands of paan shops in Ahmedabad. All of them are open. The reports are not just misleading but also mischievous," Nehra told News18.

US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will travel to India on February 24 and 25. On the first day of his India visit, Trump meet be in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state Gujarat.

A report by The Times of India quoted an AMC official as saying that the customers used to throw cigarette butts and spit paan-masala everywhere, making it difficult to keep the area clean. If the shops were kept open, it would have been difficult to retain cleanliness.

The report stated that the municipal corporation has sealed three paan shops at the airport circle. It added a wall has been erected in the city to keep slums off the sight of the US President.

They claimed that notices had been pasted outside the shops mentioning that if the shop-owners try to remove the seal, legal action will be taken. The initiative, the report said, was taken to make sure that all the roads and walls around the Ahmedabad airport remain and span.

There were also reports that claimed at least 45 families living in a slum near the newly-built Motera stadium were also served eviction notices by the municipal corporation.

While officials denied any connection with the proposed high-profile visit and issuance of notices, residents of the slum have questioned the timing of the move, which came days after the AMC began building a wall allegedly to cover a slum on a route that the US President is likely to take while visiting the city.

Reacting to the development, Nehra further clarified that notices issued were not "eviction notices" but were meant to provide an opportunity to the slum-dwellers to present "documents related to ownership".

"There are no plans to evict any slum-dwellers near the event venue or the route which the dignitaries will take," a report in Indian Express quoted him as saying. He claimed the slum-dwellers will be provided with alternative homes in due course of time.

Donald Trump would be visiting the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and take part in a roadshow with PM Modi. Both the leaders are also expected to inaugurate a new cricket stadium in Motera and address a gathering there.

Trump has said that he would sign a trade deal during his India visit if “it was the right one”. The president said that millions will welcome him in India. "He (Modi) is a great gentleman and I look forward to going to India," Trump added.

Donald Trump Trolled For Claiming 80% Of Ahmedabad Will Line Up For Him

Donald Trump India visit: Many noted that Ahmedabad's population in the last 2011 census was 55 lakh or 5.5 million and is estimated to be 86 lakh or 8.6 million in 2020.

New Delhi:

When US President Donald Trump was busted on Day One of his presidency for wildly exaggerating the number of people attending his inauguration with photoshopped images, everyone but his supporters got a sense of his relationship with numbers.

Three years later, as he heads for his first official visit to India, Twitter users have called out the conservative leader for once again taking liberties with his facts.

Speaking to journalists days before the trip in Washington, Mr Trump bragged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised him 7 million people between the airport and his reception event in Ahmedabad.

"We're not treated very well by India, but I happen to like Prime Minister Modi a lot. And he told me we'll have 7 million people between the airport and the event," Mr Trump said, referring to a roadshow ahead of a "Namaste Trump" rally in Ahmedabad, the main city in Gujarat where he will begin the trip.

The bombastic claim, though not unusual for Donald Trump, quickly sparked a wave of sarcasm and scepticism on Twitter. For one, many noted that Ahmedabad's population in the last 2011 census was 55 lakh or 5.5 million and is estimated to be 86 lakh or 8.6 million in 2020. Mr Trump's claim would been 80 per cent of the city's population will line up for him.

Mr Trump will land in India on Monday for a two-day trip that has seen the Indian government pull out all the stops, including a reception in the just-completed world's largest cricket stadium that the US President will get to open.

Authorities in Ahmedabad told news agency Reuters that they expect to spend around Rs 85 crore on preparations for the visit that is likely to last around three hours, including a 400-metre wall along Mr Trump's route to block slums from his view.

In the past, the US President's promiscuous relationship with facts has been called out by no less than India's Foreign Ministry. Last year, after repeated claims by Mr Trump that PM Modi had asked him to help mediate with Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, New Delhi firmly said no such request has been made.
