Hyderabad: With the launch of Kondapochamma Sagar Project on Friday, efforts are on to construct the 10 tmc ft Keshavpuram reservoir at Shamirpet, which will get water from the project to meet drinking water needs of Hyderabad and ensure sufficient supply to the city through the year.

The Keshavpuram reservoir is planned with a whopping cost of over Rs 4,700 crore and once completed, the reservoir will get Godavari water from Kondapochamma project and in turn the same will be supplied to the city.

The project involves formation of earthen bund reservoir at Keshavpuram, construction of concrete block consisting of spillway block, intake structures, raw water filling arrangement from Kondapochamma Sagar Reservoir and scour sluice structure, inlet and outlet sluice arrangements, service roads on top and around the bund etc.

Raw water gravity 3,600 mm diameter pipeline will be laid from Kondapochamma Sagar (Pamulaparthy) to Keshavpuram reservoir. Arrangements to draw raw water from Keshavpuram reservoir to water treatment plant (WTP) will be made via Narayanpur and Muduchintalapally, besides construction of 172-MGD capacity WTP at Bommarasipeta, said a HMWSSB official.

The water from Keshavpuram will reach here through gravity without any operational expenditure. From the reservoir, water can be supplied to the city via Lingampally and Sainikpuri after synchronising distribution network with the Godavari ring main, he said. “This reservoir will ensure sufficient supply of drinking water to Hyderabad through the year, irrespective of the water levels in other reservoirs,” the official said.

As per the State government instructions, land acquisition exercise is being expedited and officials said it is in the final stages. In all, about 1,500 acres will be utilised in Keshavpuram, Yakhatpura and Addraspally villages and of these, nearly 920 acres pertain to forest lands and the rest are assigned, government and patta lands.

The entire land acquisition exercise will be completed shortly and the land will be handed over to the HMWSSB for commencing civil works, the official added.

True that...due to decades of mismanagement by former multiple governments, people had to rely on ground water..hope this new project replenish the water table in and around Hyderabad

Ring majn kadutunnatu, hitech city (kokapet, manikonda etc) being on high elevation still has water woes and more importantly godavari line is not connected to these areas. This also is being pursued..news from today. Mottam ORR chuttu vestaru anta eventually Krishna, Godavari, Local water sources like osman sagar, manjeera anni ring main ki interconnected untayi so uniform water supply kuda expect cheya vachu
