That's basically the end of spirituality, when you realize that "you" are what will help you. The point of prayer, spiritualism and everything is when you realize that "you" are what people refer to as God. That's why we should just trust ourselves and leave the rest. Reading hanuman chalisa won't do anything, if you don't understand the meaning of it. Hanuman is the embodiment of the courage in one's soul. So, when you read hanuman chalisa, all you're doing is praising the courage inside you, isn't that the same as trusting yourself? Trusting the courage inside you. When you trust that someone else or something else will save you, you won't necessarily do everything you possibly can to get to where you want to get. Because, you are trusting that something else will help you. But if you trust yourself, you will do the best you can, because you alone should help yourself to get where you want to get to.
