K the problem with mallya is he didn't know anything about aviation, he invested a lot in it, he instead hire g.r gopinath as md after air deccan deal, that would be much better..

Mallya bought AD only for the sake of entering international market.. he wouldn’t do that I guess

Was reading an old article from 2008 about inter globe... those guys blatantly stole the data from Air Deccan and migrated the passengers to indigo whenever they had IT failure 😕 . And Gopinath was scared to launch a criminal complaint because of his ignorance in IT.
I feel lack of proper delegation played a huge role here, if only they had good structure probably Air Deccan would be What indigo is today.

That was the actual reason for downfall of Air Deccan...

Completely because of Interglobe tactics...not just IT failure but when ever there was heavy traffic on air Deccan, Interglobe diverted those traffic to other airlines and made money...

Of course, Atarvata vachina civil aviation ministers also has a major stake in downfall of the airline.

K I watched bad boy billionaires epsidode of mallya on Netflix, he ran domestic too... But due to overcosts spent on customers wellness began to trouble mallya, he ran it for 4 years and kept on investing... That troubled him

I kinda feel sad for Gopinath, he should have invested for better IT management, he literally said “I was scared to launch a criminal complaint on inter globe because if they pulled the plug the airlines would have crashed”!

It’s not about investing in better IT but back then, there were onmy 2-3 major players who provided IT support to airlines. Amadeus, Accenture and couple of other small time support but Amadeus was the major player in airline ticketing and in short, It was leading the cartel, kind of monopoly.

Ticketing and IT cost used to be 5-8% of the operating cost for an airline which was way too high for air deccan...

Then comes the businessman Rakesh Gangwal, US Airways executive and when air Deccan was shaping, Rakesh Gangwal leading a company called Worldspan Technologies which was aiming at Amadeus market.

2004 General Elections in India and we had a new Government and new civil aviation minister.

2004 General Elections in India and we had a new Government and new civil aviation minister.

India now had an every growing market for civil aviation and Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Bhatia were in close friends with the NCP and influenced the new civil aviation policy, then the airlines such as GoAir, Indigo, Spicejet, kingfisher, etc started. However, all these airlines applied for permissions starti g 2003 but eventualy started flying around 2005

Rahul Bhatia saw future in this sector and then comes interglobe aviation, which offered IT and ticketing services for lowest prices, and one of the promoter was Rakesh Gangwal who was a renowed name in aviation and around then, Air Deccan has 98% occupancy rates and was a win win situation until 2005, when Interglobe also started airline and then started sabotaging airline ticketing in favour...

soon, Air Deccan which had over 90% load factor, started to fly half empty...losses mounted...bankers refused because the bigger players were already in the industry...goyal,mallya,wadia etc one one side and gopinath was on the other side..

eventually, gopinath had to sell the airline.
