Because, we assume that if someone is SC or ST, then they have no merit, but got what they did because of reservation. It's actually true even with women in most cases. People tend to assume that you're not as good as someone without reservation. As long as this inherent bias exists against SC/ST people, they deserve every bit of reservation. Until this notion is not gone in upper castes, we need reservations.

Wonder why none of 200 other countries are following this great idea... Give jobs and higher studies seats not based on merit and ability, but just because you were born in a caste...

Even after your father and mother are settled well in government jobs and are in higher positions ( thanks to reservations in promotions )...

Convince me why you need reservations even in promotions...you got free education, got seat without working hard , got a job without merit ...lazily enjoying the benefits of reservations..

Now that you got a job, you get promoted ahead of others..who has to work hard...and no one can say anything against you for the fear of sc/st act.

And you become the boss of a hard working employee....

Wow.. Just wow...

Rest of 200 countries are missing  a lot 🙂

America follows it alright, because number of black, Latinos, women in higher Ed, especially academia is abysmal compared white men. Moreover, people tend to assume that you're not as good as a white man, because you're a women, or you're brown, black, yellow.

Single reason is this, you think SC, STs are lazy enough. That's why. Lazy people IMO are people who rely on freebies provided by Jagan anna. Not the ones, that try to get better in life by using reservation. If you're a OC, accept that you need to work extra hard to get ahead of others, you owe it to all the privileges that your forefathers had over the generations. Suck it up and stop whining. Don't look at people ahead of you, look at yourself and ask why you didn't do better.

Opposite of equality...🙂 For the no mistake of me , even though we are very poor and 0 assets just because of caste I've to work double hard...

/End of logic

I never said inequality doesn't exit.....

Questioning reservations as solution....that too in jobs...heck, how in the world anyone can justify reservations in promotions?

How in the world you can justify reservations for MS ...

Give a seat to 10000th rank holder and no MS seat for #8.

MD - questionable, but yeah ... probably accept.

MS - Neuro surgeon seat for a guy who barely passed MBBS ...perhaps he passed out because of reservations in professors too ... Good luck

It's not equality. It's equity. People who were discriminated in the past need to compensated, period. We owe it to all the mistakes the our forefathers committed. Yes, you need to work extra hard, suck it up. Don't blame SC/ST guy for you not working hard enough.

Seat allotments don't work that way, that 10000 rank holder is probably the best SC/ST guy they found to fill that position. You shouldn't be comparing a person with 8th rank against a person with 10000th rank. You should be comparing the person with 8th rank over the last 8 generations and the person with 10000th rank over the last 8 generations. You would know the reality of what struggles they faced to get where they are at now. You're just looking at your peers and whining, it's just on the surface. You need to look deeper.

How previus generations come into picture?

SC father is IAS officer, got 10000 rank.

OC father is coolie, paid fees with great difficulty, got 8th rank.

You are going back one generation, now go further to 7 more generations. What struggles did they face in the past? The point of affirmative action is basically white men or OCs repenting for their past mistakes, to increase diversity. If SC/STs were not discriminated in the past, there would be 15% of them in all walks of life (based on their population). But do you see that's the case?

Why go 7 generations if you availed full reservations in previous generation? Stop for them .... Your parents are to be blamed if they didn't raise you well

Lol, do you understand how privilege works? If you or your forefathers or your great grandparents or your great great grandparents abused SC/ST people in the past, it means that at your parents or your generation, the SC/ST guy had to work extra extra extra hard, to be even remotely similar to your parents or you. That's why, you need look back so many generations because most people don't realize how privileged they were.

Your answer shows who is intellectual and who is not...

So, you are saying you need reservations forever ... Irrespective of their economic status... Wow hats off

Reservation, means as long as there is discrimination, there has to be course correction. This is not about economic status, this is about social status, subverting the issue with an economic argument is an oft used strategy to confuse the issue.

And of course you seem obtuse enough to understand this simple difference!
