Here’s a timeline of the events leading to the murder of the tailor, identified as Kanhaiya Lal:

  1. Victim uploads social media post supporting Nupur Sharma
According to the victim’s relatives, the young tailor had made a social media post in the support of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma 10 days ago. She had recently made comments against Prophet Mohammad, over which the saffron party took action and suspended her after backlash from Muslim countries.
  2. Victim arrested for social media post
Kanhaiya Lal was also arrested by the local police over his remarks made on social media.
  3. Victim out on bail
However, the tailor, who has a shop the city’s Dhan Mandi area, was soon released on bail. He was out on bail when the incident took place.
  4. Victim receives threats
The victim soon started receiving threats after he made the social media post. According to his relatives, he received multiple threats from different sources.
  5. Victim approaches police for protection
Fearing for his life, Kanhaiya then approached the police for protection. But, his relatives alleged, his complaint was not taken seriously. They have alleged that no action was taken by police on his the victim’s complaint.
  6. Victim is murdered
The tailor was beheaded in broad daylight and the incident filmed by the accused. According to police, the accused came to his shop on the pretext of giving measurements for clothes. As the tailor took the measurements of one of them — who later identified himself as Riaz — the other attacked him with a cleaver. The other man also shot the murder on his mobile phone. The two men fled the scene and later uploaded the clip on social media.

Do not even have words to say. The act of cutting a human head - while the person is still alive - unimaginably cruel and the most painful way to die.

While I normally am for the legal process to take its due course - I really hope the police break every single bone in their bodies and render them disabled for the rest of their lives. Motherfucking cunts. May they get the most slow, painful and unbearable deaths.

A shopkeeper was murdered in broad daylight in Udaipur on Tuesday, sparking tensions in the city. The shopkeeper, named Kanhaiya Lal, was murdered by two men who chopped his head off and later recorded a video admitting to killing the man over a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma.

India Today TV has learnt that the murder followed a post put up by the shopkeeper's eight-year-old son in support of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma. Nupur Sharma was recently in the news for her controversial statements about Prophet Muhammad.

On Tuesday, a video emerged on social media showing two men entering a tailor's shop in Udaipur and proceeding to attack him with knives. In a separate video posted by the two men, the duo is heard admitting to the murder and threatening PM Narendra Modi.

In a third video, recorded on June 17, and which soon emerged after the murder on Tuesday, one of the two men is heard describing his intentions of carrying out an act similar to what took place in Udaipur on Tuesday.

POLICE SEARCH FOR ACCUSED, CM APPEALS FOR CALM

The police have said that they have identified the alleged murderers and are searching for them. The Superintendent of Police of Udaipur said, "A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. Few accused have been identified. Police teams have been constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act."

PROTESTS BREAK OUT IN UDAIPUR, INTERNET SUSPENDED

Following the incident, Hindu organisations shut down markets as protests erupted across Udaipur. The demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the violent act.

District Collector Tarachand Meena and Superintendent of Police Manoj Chaudhary reached the spot as the situation escalated.

Meanwhile, internet services have been suspended in the area for the next 24 hours.

BJP SLAMS CONGRESS RULE IN RAJASTHAN

Rajasthan BJP chief Satish Poonia hit out at the Ashok Gehlot-led government in the state and alleged that the incident was a result of “appeasement policy of the CM and the Congress.”

“What kind of government is this Ashok ji, where Kanhaiya Lal does not have the freedom to support anyone but Mohammad Riyaz has the freedom to kill? Riyaz has also shown violent feelings towards the Prime Minister. Riyaz should be taken into custody immediately and his terrorist links should be investigated,” Satish Poonia tweeted.

He added, “Today's incident in Udaipur proves that Hindu is not safe anywhere under Congress' Ashok Gehlot's rule. It is the result of the appeasement policy of the Chief Minister and the Congress that the criminals are raised in spirit and the fear of law has ended.”

Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Amit Malviya said, “Two Muslim men behead Kanhaiya Lal, a Hindu shopkeeper, inside his shop in Udaipur. They then release a video of the act and another owning up the crime, brandishing machetes used and vow to kill Prime Minister Modi. Ashok Gehlot, however, has promised “thorough” investigation...”

Calling the incident “reprehensible”, BJP leader Bhupender Yadav slammed the Congress government in Rajasthan.

“The brutal murder of an innocent man in Rajasthan’s Udaipur shows that the Ashok Gehlot government is running a jungle raj. This is what happens when a dispensation makes appeasement its governance model. Reprehensible state of affairs,” Bhupender Yadav tweeted.
