Most people loose money anticipating bear market than in bear market .. Every time after the stocks bottomed , thr stocks went over 30% up in next 12 months . Most of the 401k options are not individual stocks . At max they offer company stock . It is very difficult you mess up with 401k allocation . They mostly default with low fees index based TDFs. I know people saying that stocks are overvalued from 2016 and on the sidelines without investing. Just imagine how much they lost even after the recent slide..
