Our Dads are the last generation who got away without doing any household work..

Our generation has to do office work, house work, dishes, clothes, kids education, school/activities pickup and drop offs, back yard work, mowing, handyman work, plumbing work, etc etc… and still hear complaints that we are not doing something..

agree.. US lo untu matram ani cheyali.. our dads are fortunate in this case

my case is even more diff.. was in boarding school from sixth class then inter hostel then bachelors out of state job out of state then US.. pillani nene sooskuna pelli ki nene petukuna ipudu pilladini nene choostuna aina kuda cousins tho vere vaala tho comparison now n then.. inka em cheyalara babu ana edupe untadi naku 🥲

Naa davadalodi…maa yaavida dishwasher lo pette vatni kuda clean sesthadi…wat a waste of resources. MIL ni mette tho kottali…she came and introduced this dishwasher concept to her. Now we both r paying the price…water, electricity bokka.

I honestly feel my Dad did not get away with anything. And the reason is my Mom was a home maker who stayed at home - like most traditional Indian mothers of that era. So she completely took care of household chores including shopping for groceries etc., and taking care of kids, their upbringing and school activities.

Dad genuinely spent most of his day working and sometimes on his way back he too did some shopping and ran other errands. Unlike here in the US - my Dad - again like most Indian dads worked 6 days a week - which is unthinkable for anyone of our generation. So I felt he fully deserved getting help from my mom. My mom on the other hand had essentially a 7 day work week (household chores have to be done everyday) - but not every day was hectic.

 

My dad did learn cooking even before he got married - as he had to stay in various places for jobs alone. So whenever my Mom got sick - he used to cook.

 

Overall it was a very fair distribution of work between my mom and dad.
