I perhaps made a mistake in labeling these places "small towns" - these are places that are technically suburbs but far removed from the trappings or influence of a big city/town.

So a well educated place with Whites who are predominantly Republican.

I am not sure if you can make a like to like comparison with the US - but they mainly have what I'd like to describe as Centre-Right and Centre-Left. Nothing too extreme on either side.  There's some smaller parties but they do not have country wide influence.
