FrontMan
went to buffet in one of the south indian restaurant that has biryani as menu item. one family with a 1)6 year old kid 2).. wife and husband.. 3) in laws occupied one of the table. when I arrived at restaurant they were already having their lunch.. total of 5. they are all communicating in hindi.. well dressed and father in law is sipping beer while having lunch.. so as I stand in buffet.. mother in law went to dum biryani section .. for 8 minutes she dug biryani from end ,wen around and continued digging for leg pieces and collected around 6 leg thigh big pieces as we waiting in line.. we are next in line for biryani and they are blocking the biryani pots from both sides... her husband (70 year old uncle) broke the line and filled rest of the remaining leg pieces ... then mother in law waved at her DIL. so here is where drama started.. her daughter in law broke the line, went to biryani directly without us getting the biryani and called for manager.. angrily shouting at restaurant owner (owner is telugu person) DIL: what kind of buffet you are running without leg pieces in chicken dum biryani ? her husband comes running to her " kya hua deepa ? " "kaisa log hei ye amit ... kuch bhi nehi biryani pe.. sirf chawal kha le hum and ye tharika he buffet ka .. " and then she whispers to her husband "ye madrasi log ko akal nehi hota ".. they refilled biryani again with leg pieces while rice is hardly emptied ...confused look on owners face as if how come they are out of leg pieces when they just filled them.. then drama continued for dessert and others.. her MIL and uncle .. filled 5 small bowls for dessert (sugar vachi potharu ra nayana)... and again recreated drama saying dessert bhi nehi hei.. we need three types of dessert.. here only three varieties are available.. poor owner served them gulab jamun which was not in menu for free.. i never felt that bad for our own.. pichhipullayya
Anna had same experience in Aha restaurant in Pleasanton , CA . Went with Family while we were in line One Telugu guy (he didn't even wipe the right hand after eating ) was digging mutton curry with same hand and took all pieces and only left gravy. Maa aavidaku full kopam vachhindi , i controlled her not to say anything, same story repeated after refill. So manam north south anadam kadu, most of our desi folks are like this. btw this is the last time i went for Buffet in Bay area, before i moved on
