Rafale is an overpaid aircraft. Why pay $160+ million for it? SAAB Gripen would have been acquired at less than 90 million each plus tech transfer. Although taken originally from GE, Volvo has build on its own and improved the engine and now owns it too. They could have easily manufactured it in India. Now they are NATO. Not sure, how independently they will operate. What did India do with LCA Tejas? Kaveri engine is a failure. Just to show it as a victory, it fast tracked buying GE Engine. Tomorrow if US stops or sanctions supplying spares, Tejas will sit ducks again, just like Mig 21s. If India's need is to upgrade squadrons from existing 30+ to 40+ and replace the existing planes, why buy F35s? The numbers will not add up at all. 5th generation airplanes are not battle tested. Without privatization of defense, India has no future in terms of defense LCA was started in 1984, they are yet to operationalize in 2024.. thanks to IAB babus and Govt planning. it will never get what Indian armed forces want.
