thunderstorm369 Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 India's Leander Paes and Czech's Lukas Dlouhy won the men's doubles title at the US Open, beating Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles in three sets. This is Paes' 10th Grand Slam doubles title, and his fifth in men's doubles. With Dlouhy, this is his second Grand Slam. They had won the French Open earlier this year. Bhupathi and his partner from Bahamas Knowles took the first set 6-3 quickly. Paes and his Czech partner Dlouhy clawed back into the second set, winning 6-3, and took the deciding set 6-2. Bhupathi-Knowles were cool and composed in the first set, wrapping it up easily. But Paes was keen on making amends for the mixed doubles final he had lost this week with Black. Paes raised his intensity a few notches, aggressively manning the net, pumping his fists and producing full-throated cries after winning points. The second set was locked 3-3 with Bhupathi serving. After four advantages, Dlouhy and Paes were finally able to break Bhupathi for the lead. The momentum shifted thereon. The second set was won, after some struggle, and the third set taken without sweat. It's the first time Paes and Bhupathi have faced off in the final of a Grand Slam. They were the world No. 1 doubles team a decade ago. Quote
