Very interesting lecture on India’s post independence history. Must watch!

We tend to simplify the past and blame the past rulers a lot.

Sarah Paine is a great historian who wrote lot of books on Asia.

My grand father started with literally nothing, no education and no money.. did a menial and very very small business, raised 7 kids on his own without my grandmother (she died very young), saved money and bought 3 acres of land and a house by the time he died.. he gave good education to 3 of his sons and tried to educate the other kids too, who unfortunately didn’t do well.. they are still not doing well..

he was basically hated by half of his kids and relatives for being very mean.. I don’t think he ever enjoyed anything or used any of what he earned..

appudu ma thatha ma nanna ni chadivinchaka pothe, memu Ippudu Ila undevallam kaademo..  😀😀 but sadly I didn’t understand his greatness when he was alive 🙁🙁

Similar story, but grand mother on father side. Tata died when my dad was 2. Only dad studied well and got a job, came to hyd. I never realized my grandmothers greatness when she was alive. I keep hearing so much about her from everyone when I go to our place. Got boatload of respect for her now

i feel that we should teach our kids about our grand parents and the situations at that time… they take everything for granted

Yes I do. I keep telling kids some stories about them. I will show them what we would have been if not for them with examples showing our relatives in India. Be thankful, be grateful.

Parents feel happy too when kids ask them questions from past. You have to exaggerate certain things to make it interesting for them.

Like my dad used to play center in football in school. He was good. But I tell that he was the best. His strength comes from carrying water from remote places for 2 hrs everyday, etc. a lot of it is true though.
