Komati is the name of their original community  ,vyshya is their Varna although they aren't vyshyas originally but were fitted into the 4 tier system by lobbying with Brahmins.

I don't know why they use arya name though , probably to denote that now they are part of 4 tier indo-aryan Varna system.

Because the name of caste itself is komati. In British India, they fought a  legal battle (in courts) to be recognized as "Arya vysya".

  • Their caste deity is Lord Vasavi Kanyaka Parameshwari, and their traditions often emphasize non-violence, vegetarianism, and ethical living—aligning with the “Arya” (noble) way of life.

Kalinga Vysyas (beri komatlu) -> they eat non-veg.

Vysyas spread out in many parts of the country Karnataka tamilnadu Maharashtra etc. every state has their own name so to be recognised as a common name called as arya vysyas.

Komatis original roots were from Gavaras and Kalingas. At some point of time in British India, they started adopting Jandhyam and other rituals which was opposed by Niyogis Brahmins. Niyogis held power in British India in the south under the British(white Anglo Saxon).

They took the fight to courts and magistrates issued orders against Komatis using those rituals in favour of Niyogis

However, Vadiki Brahmins stood by Komatis and helped their adoption of such rituals. They started associations and demanded Arya Vysya status and were able to get listed as such in British census in 1920s and was called as such in other census and govt. orders later on.

But vyavaharika Basha lo "Komatllu" antaru

Arya vysya also eat non veg now. So now they should be called dravida vysya  for not leading noble life
