maveric99 Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 After Real's swoop of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for a record breaking £80 million their arch rivals Barcelona now want to make another United star, striker Wayne Rooney the most expensive footballer of the world. The Spanish and European champions are planning an incredible £85 million summer bid for the England forward. But as in the case of Ronaldo, Rooney himself will hold the key to any successful bid from the Nou Camp. Man Utd had no choice but to surrender to Ronaldo's desire to go to the Bernabeu, but boss Fergie will be hoping Rooney is less inclined to leave them. The in-form play-maker is now seen as the focal point of the Red Devils and Sir Alex would fight even harder to keep Rooney than he did Ronaldo. Rooney suggested this week he wanted to stay at Old Trafford for life. However, the prospect of joining up with the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldo in the Spanish League is sure to be tempting. Quote
