OBD ii Diagnostics

check engine light ?

obd ii scanner can help you out ANM-CP9185_ml.jpg

IMP:

Make sure you are very carefull on connecting the probe under the car hood...... the ports are very sensitive and can break ... which is expensive to replace..

net-gadgeteer-obd-ii-module-large.jpg

==============================

After collecting code on obd ii machine , docde the code from website http://www.obd-codes.com/

once you repair the problem, do not clear the code... instead ..go for suggested drive cycle..

each car have their own suggested drive cycles..

For example toyota camry 2006

The procedure must be followed as exactly as possible, otherwise it will not work.

  • Ensure that the fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full.
  • Start cold (below 86°F /30°C) and warm up until engine coolant temperature is at least 160° F (typically requires at least one minute; up to 3 minutes).
  • Accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for five minutes.
  • Decelerate without using the brake (coast down) to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.
  • Restart and accelerate to 40-55 MPH at 25% throttle and maintain speed for two minutes.
  • Decelerate with using the brake [or the clutch!] by coasting down to 20 MPH or less, then stop the vehicle. Allow the engine to idle for 10 seconds, turn the key off, and wait one minute.

or simply drive your car for few days and wait for check engine light go away,..,,,

one time i had check engine light lit up.. and i resolved the case with simple fix of tightening the fuel cap..

What’s The Easiest Way To Keep Your Car Clean?

Cars are not just transportation devices, they are jukeboxes, lunch spots, gym bags, trash cans, coffee shops, and playgrounds. How can you keep your … Read…

No matter what you do, your car always ends up a mess. Thankfully, Jalopnik readers are here with ten simple ways to keep your car from becoming a rolling trashbag.

Welcome back to Answers of the Day — our daily Jalopnik feature where we take the best ten responses from the previous day's Question of the Day and shine it up to show off. It's by you and for you, the Jalopnik readers. Enjoy!

If you don't want to click through the gallery you can see the post in a single page right here.

10.) Don't eat in there

Suggested By: Demon-Xanth

Why it's effective: If you can avoid eating in your car, you won't have to deal with all the wrappers, cartons, stains and crumbs that inevitably follow.

9.) Wax it occasionally

Suggested By: Demon-Xanth

Why it's effective: It means you have to buy something and it means you have to spend some time after washing your car, but it's an investment that pays off. Waxing your car occasionally makes washing it the next time easier.

8.) Knock your shoes before getting in

Suggested By: Charles Mallari

Why it's effective: Wherever it snows and gets slushy, you really can't keep your car from getting dirty on the inside, but you can do a lot just by knocking your boots before you get in.

Sit down on the seat with your legs outside and knock your cold, block-like feet together. Then you just swivel in. It means your footwells won't be quite so grimy and icy.

7.) Keep kids out

Suggested By: Nibby4WD

Why it's effective: If at all possible, don't have kids and your car will stay much cleaner. If you do have kids, try and contain them in the family truckster and keep your car out of their grubby, dirty, smearing hands.

This may be a lost cause for many of you parents out there, but the rest of you need to stay vigilant.

6.) Clean messes up quick

Suggested By: oyumurtaci

Why it's effective: If you let a spill or a stain linger for any period of time in your car, it quickly becomes "character" and is impossible to remove.

Remember that time when Jim smacked his head on the doorframe and got blood on the armrest? Of course you do, because you didn't clean it up right away and now it's a stain you never have the time or the wherewithal to scrub away.

How To Ruin A Cadillac In 62 Miles

5.) Garage it

Suggested By: Ash78

Why it's effective: While not everyone has a garage available, if you can find some enclosed space for your car, it will stay much cleaner. Mother Nature has a way of bringing every living bird to roost in the tree just above your parked car.

There are a thousand other things the elements can bring unto your vehicle, so clear out your old BowFlex and stick your car in there.

4.) Keep a trashbag in the car

Suggested By: JJohn

Why it's effective: Get either a small trash can or just a trash bag and keep it in your car. It keeps your junk from falling into the tiny cracks around the seats, or from rolling under the seats, and generally getting where you're too lazy to clean.

3.) Every time you leave, take something out

Suggested By: mcdbrendan, Right Foot to Boxer, BrtStlnd

Why it's effective: There are three cleaning regimens that will keep your car clean. Each one requires a different degree of diligence, but they all work.

Every time you stop for gas, reach into all the cubby holes and pull out the trash so you can throw it out.

Every time you stop and get out of your car for any reason, grab all the trash in your car.

If you stop and your car already looks clean, look around for one thing in your car that doesn't strictly need to be there and take it out.

2.) Make a routine for washing

Suggested By: TimTim, Jstas

Why it's effective: There's no quick fix to keeping your car washed regularly. You have to either set up a schedule for taking your car to a carwash, or you need to start a routine for washing your own car.

Mark it out on your calendar and use the two-bucket method. One bucket has clean water and the other bucket is soapy. Scrub your car clean, soap it up, then wash it all off from the top down. Stay regimented and your car won't ever stay dirty.

1.) Keep it clean so it stays clean

Suggested By: horspowr1001

Why it's effective: The easiest way to keep your car from getting dirty is to clean it once and make sure it stays that way. Once it's clean, it's easy to keep it clean, as reader horspowr1001 explains:

spark plugs:

When to change spark plugs: 1. Engine has a rough idle

Your engine idles when it is a stationary and in this position the engine normally produces around 1000rpm. The sound the engine gives off is constant and smooth but if your spark plugs aren’t performing as they should, your engine will produce a rough and jittery sound while producing larger vibrations through the car. Not having this checked can lead to costly damage being done.

2. Having trouble starting your car?

Many people put their car not starting down to being out of fuel or having a flat battery. One possibility you may overlook is having bad or worn spark plugs. If your spark plugs don’t produce the spark needed to get the vehicle moving, then you’re going nowhere. It is also possible that faulty spark plugs are causing your battery to drain. If so you need to have your battery and spark plugs changed as soon as possible.

3. Your engine misfires

When your engine misfires it causes the vehicle to halt for a fraction of a second and then continues it’s usual movement. This means the vehicle isn’t functioning as smoothly as it should because one or more cylinders aren’t firing properly, which can also lead to higher amounts of emissions.

4. Engine surging

When a vehicle sucks in more air than usual in the combustion process it can cause the vehicle to jerk and then slow down or continually start and stop, which means the vehicles engine is working inefficiently. This is also known as engine hesitation and dangerous situation can arise if this occurs in traffic.

5. High fuel consumption

If your spark plugs have deteriorated you’ll notice that your vehicles fuel economy can decrease by up to 30% due to incomplete combustion. If you notice you’re having to fill up more often than usual it can be caused by deteriorating spark plugs. To get back to your vehicle’s optimum level of fuel consumption all you’ll need to do is have your spark plugs changed.

6. Lack of acceleration

If your vehicle is accelerating poorly it is fairly easy to tell. It feels as if the vehicle doesn’t want to respond when you put your foot down, or it does but not instantly as you’ve become accustomed to. It can also feel as if your vehicle is trying really hard to pull itself along. This ‘sluggishness’ can be easily fixed by having the vehicle serviced with a spark plug change.

remove dirt prior to removing spark plug

while replacing spark plugs apply dielectric grease in boot area

use a torque wrench to tighten it..

recently i have seen a old mans infiniti where the spark plugs are over tightened and it have caused some corrossion.

ENGINE oil

sources: I have a book called motorbible... which is a good read..

Read page 139 on this book http://www.zag.si/~jank/public/bmw/oil_bible.pdf

Ikkada chala mandhi adugutunnaru synthetic oils evaru use cheyali ani ??

1. If you are very cautious person and you replace the oil every 3000- 4000 miles (good oil comes for longer durations) you dont need synthetic oil..it is waste of money for you...

if you are a house wife lady and always thinks your husband replace / maintain your car.. then you need synthetic oil as skiping maintenance can cost your engine

2. If you drive like less than 6000 or 8000 miles a year and use conventional oil.. it might not good beacause you are using same oil in the car for more than year and waiting for that 4000 mark to come.. so you need synthetic oil. bECAUSE IF YOU RUN TTHE OIL THAT LOSTS LUBRICATING PROPERTIES  will ruin the engien parts.

going around for short trips might not help heat your engine oil warm enough to get thicken.. if you are doing short distance commute like 5miles or 6 miles one way to office.. so you need synthetic oil that can operate at extreme warm and cold temperatures

3. Do not use for older vehicles.. synthetic has more flow characteristics.. which flows through engine gaps... gets noisy with oil leaks..

Engine oil enduku ?

The basic purpose of engine oil is that it lubricates the parts and cools the engine...

removes the carbon from the engine

prevents sludge -> sludge is big issue with toyota vechicles ..they even have a website for the victims http://toyotasludge.com/victims

This will also happen if you use improper filter.. (we will discuss about changing oil filter briefly)

this video also suggests why it is a good idea to save the bills of maintenance ;)

synthetic oil enduku ?

erwin rommel German commander.. okka tank battle kooda odipoledhu..

England vallavi desert lo tanks anni isukala struck ayyi engine damage avtunte... Germany vallavi matram chekku chedarledhu.. reason ? vaalu ww ii time lone synthetic oil use chesaru

synthetic oils use polymers that add extra physics

cleanliness, wear protection, and high/low temperature protection.

cleanliness - absorb more wax dust in petrol fuel

wear protection - they flow every corner of the engine.. becaue of better flow and also lasts long

WHen to change ??

in my car maintenance required light will glow automatically... but good guy will check the condition of oil time to time.. if the oil looks too good even at the end of the cycle.. then something is fishy...

well as discussed most people change the oil 3000 to 3500 miles.. but i will suggest 4000 miles...
because excessive dumping of oil is harmful to nature.. say if you dump a oil improperly a gallon of oil will polute 1 million gallons of drinking water.

and please dont judge the oil is bad from the colour since each oil manufacturers have their own oil color on the basis of additives (only coolant or antifreezwe is in light pink colour.. and they last for life time unless for somecars.. where they change every 100,000 miles.. we can discuss this later)

ford focus suggests 7,500 miles...

Jaguar suggests 15000 miles...

KIA hyundai - 5000 miels

TOYOTA with synthetic oil - 10000 miles

MOBILE 1 synthetic oil .. top in the field suggests 15000 miles on any car.. confidence ;)

I SUGESST - READ YOUR MANUAL

WHAT PRODUCT TO USE:

My car i s toyota camry ..so i use toyota sae  0W30 because my car is over 100k miles

all multiviscocity oils like 0w30 and 5w30 and 10w40  are suggested with temperature range -20 degress F - +95 degrees in summer

dont confuse number 0 5 and 10 as viscocity...

those number just mean how well they flow under lower temperature.. 0 is best 5 is second best and so on...

hence 0w30 is very expensive and most suggested.. considering weather we are facing now

====

for sae 30 (old cars )
0w3o - amsoil
schaffer

for new cars 0w20
MOBIL 1 is number 1 for 0w 20
followed by synergyn   5w20

you can use cheap oil too... for old vehicles... if you use 2005 2004 year car .. use cheap oil.. but make sure Apsi symbol vunnadhi chudandi

v8 engines and truck have special oil... i will only get them changed at dealer .. if i have v8 engine car..

Which filter

Except Fran use any filter

dont forget to replace filter every time you change your oil...

oil filter prevents sludge as shown in above video .. it cleans oil from carbon

they are like kidneys..

MYTHS and apohalu

1. you can always switch from conventional semi synthetic oil to synthetic oil (also no wrong mixing them.. but dont do that) FACT: Most of the synthetic oils are blends of oil.. (mobile 1 98%)

2. Synthetic oil gives more mileage ? well 1.2% more.. which is mildly  considerable

will add more in future.. read motor oil bible.
