hydKaSher Posted March 19, 2016 Report Posted March 19, 2016 The decision of the government to supply sand free of cost to people across the State has become a ticklish issue, with complaints pouring in from all directions on alleged unauthorised transportation of truck-loads of sand from the reaches. Sand mining has always been a vexatious issue for the government, what with unscrupulous elements, often with the tacit support of local leaders or other influential forces, resorting to illegal quarrying to make a fast buck. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu almost sprung a surprise when he suddenly announced that free sand would be supplied for any construction work taken up within the State. Home Minister N. Chinarajappa and Minister for Mining P. Sujatha said any attempt to dilute the good cause behind the new law would not be tolerated. Warning against smuggling sand out of the State, they said trucks found to be used for the purpose would be seized and the driver and the owner of the vehicle put behind bars.In Krishna district, 32 trucks have been intercepted and cases booked against two persons so far. Collector Babu A. said more cases would be booked soon. He said seven reaches had been opened for public. These were at Peddapulipaka, Madduru, Bhavanipuram, Gollapudi, Suryapalem, Guntupalli, and Ibrahimpatnam.

Chinnarajappa, who also holds Home portfolio, held a meeting via video conference facility with collectors of 13 districts and senior police officials yesterday, and directed officials to take stringent action against illegal sand miners and owners of vehicles that are engaged in such activities."The government has an intention to supply sand to public at free of cost in the state.
