chichi Posted May 7, 2016 Author Report Posted May 7, 2016 Remembering Tagore, on his birthday! Behind the cult developed by Bengalis, and beyond his narrow Vaishnavite inclinations despite the Universal Human identity that he advocated for all, and despite the fact that even though the first school for girls in Santiniketan was started by him, he himself performed a child marriage for his own daughter, there lies a great man there who was also a victim of the culture of his times. It is not his failures that define him - it is his great and noble thoughts and deed that define and inspire. I for one never liked his painting style. So what? More than an artist and a musician, he was a bard of Freedom, not just a singer for Independence. Those fascinated by small and insincere fry like Gaddar and the others who sing of autonomy and revolution without understanding one bit of what they mouth, look at Tagore's life and thinking. Much to gain for us. Quote
