Jagratta man

As per Vedas, no person should bathe naked. It is prescribed that you wear at least a cotton cloth while bathing. As it is not possible for everyone due to their respective circumstances, people wear molathaadu (a sacred waist thread).

When a man becomes a widower, his molathaadu will be cut, signifying that he lost his wife to death. Also, when a man dies, his molathaadu will be cut before giving a final bath to his mortal body.

Note:- When it comes to women, their mangalsutra is removed, when they lose their significant other; or on their own death.

Girl children also are prescribed to wear molathaadu + a siggu billa (shy locket), until puberty. There will be a first menstruation ceremony, during which the girl is stylized like a bride and a festival is arranged by her family, inviting their relatives and close friends. In South people spend a fortune on these festivals, as much as they do for a marriage. It is a thing of family pride for us.
