Now that Ramoji Group founder-chairman Ch Ramoji Rao is no more, the question that naturally arises is what would happen to the cases filed against him in the alleged Margadarsi Chit Fund scam. Within hours of Ramoji Rao’s demise on Saturday, former Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar said he would not pursue with the cases filed against Ramoji Rao in the Margadarsi cases. “Ramoji Rao was a no-nonsense fighter. He had attained celebrity status and emerged as one of the most-influential personalities in the country. He did not compromise on the philosophy he had believed in,” he said. Vundavalli ruled out continuing the legal battle against Margadarsi. “When the person who was heading the company himself is not alive, what is the point in fighting the case against him,” the former MP said, indicating that he might drop the case. However, the case filed by Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) against Margadarsi during the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in March 2023 is still pending in the Telangana high court. While Ramoji Rao was named as Accused No. 1 in the case, his daughter-in-law Sailaja Kiran was named A-2. The CID issued summons to both several times and even questioned Sailaja Kiran. At one stage, the CID cops made an attempt to arrest Ramoji Rao, but could not, as he was completely bed-ridden by then. Later both Ramoji Rao and Sailaja moved the court to get the injunction from being arrested. Now that there is a change of the government in Andhra Pradesh, it will be interesting to see whether the CID will still pursue the case. Since the Telugu Desam Party headed by N Chandrababu Naidu will be forming the government, the CID might not pursue the case.

BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third term at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Sunday evening. According to a news release from the BRS, Chandrashekar Rao received a phone call from senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday, requesting his presence at the ceremony. Modi is set to take the oath on Sunday for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister, leading the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre. It remains unclear whether Rao will attend the ceremony personally or delegate a party official to represent him. Notably, Rao had declined to meet Prime Minister Modi for several years during his tenure in power.
