Why SCs are loyal votebanks for Congress?

I know SCs in TG voted mostly Congress in recent election. But they have been core Congress supporters for long time. TDP had more BC support but good number of SCs remained with Congress as reliable votebank.

I heard this one story during Indiramma rule. Apparently she would promote SC leaders to bypass regionally dominant caste feudal leaders. TDP came and gave some power to BCs. But they may have encouraged feudal caste pampering, resulting in less SC power.

Another reason might be Rajiv govt passing SC/ST atrocity act.

During Indira’s term, the SC’s became a strong vote bank for Congress. It was the first time a major political party reached out to masses. On the other hand, Janata was rising and Indira wanted to consolidate on their vote bank. This is the time when SC’s were given MP tickets, cabinet berths and positions in the party.

Not just in Telangana, Almost in entire India SC’s were the backbone of Congress which eventually got eroded and they now form the backbone of BJP’s vote bank along with tribals.

Not all SCs, only Mala. SCs lo Mala, Madiga rendu major castes. Malas don't have core profession(chethi vrutthulu). This has helped them pursuing other things, hence they utilised the reservations and became educated. They were also influenced by Britishers and most of them converted into Christianity. Damodaram Sanjivayya was the first Dalit Indian CM. So obvisouly they will align with Congress. Congress = Brahmin+Mala core vote bank from the early days along with Reddys. Reddys slowly dominated sidelining the Brahmins and Malas in the higher positions. But the vote bank stayed due to Congress top leadership. Schemes like Indirimma illu, land helped the educated SCs utulizing them. Now coming to Madigas, Madigas core profession - Cheppulu kuttadm. They continued that, hence they didn't climb the ladder quickly in education, politics or business. After TDP started in 1983, good number of Madigas are given the seats, Mothukupalli is TG is prime example, I guess he was OU student and probably around 25 years old when he got the ticket. So Madigas have been pro-TDP for long. When CBN was CM, YSR tried changing that by introducing the SC categorization which will help Madigas because Madigas are slighly higher in numbers but the educated Malas have been utilizing majority of SC reservation. CBN also supported the SC categorization which went to the supreme court and Madiga porata samithi fighting still. In the meantime, the Christianization of Madigas also in progress, especially during YSR rule and there after especially in Seema, Godari, Guntur, Prakasham Dists. Churches helped them moving towards YCP. in 2019 elections both Mala, Madiga majority people voted for YCP.

I thought BCs were backbone of BJP. SCs are still Congress because religious reasons and past gratitude for Indiramma and Razeev ji.

SC’s have stayed loyal with Congress for 30-40 years. Since 2000, we don’t really have loyal vote banks anymore, it shifts every election.

their situation was very bad in 60's. Indira Ghandi with Garibi hatavo and land ceiling acts gave them a better life. It changed their life by a lot. Anduke vallu still support to Congress.

Some constituencies still rely on long time votebanks using caste resentment. Not caste pride but resentment.
