Georgia mother killed, children rescued after being hit with large wave at California beach

According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, a 39-year-old woman from Georgia was staying with her family at a hotel in the area. Around 9 a.m. they decided to stop and take pictures of the waves by a Pismo Beach access area near the SeaCrest Hotel. Authorities say a large wave came up and knocked the woman and her two juvenile children down.

The two children were rescued by family members however the mother was stuck on a bed of rocks and was continuously hit by oncoming waves. Bystanders were eventually able to pull the woman out of the water and immediately perform CPR, but the woman was pronounced dead.

She was identified as 39-year-old Brindha Shunmuganathan. The cause of death is still under investigation.
