Sourav Ganguly instilled/injected a different ethos into Indian cricket. He changed the whole spirit of Indian cricket team. However, he failed to win us a world up in 2003. 

On the other hand, Dhoni executed his plans correctly. May be luck favored him too. At the end of the day, Dhoni is all time best cricket captain for India.

Under his captaincy, we won championship in all three different formats. 

In this whole analogy here, Gangully is Advani. Dhoni is Modi.

May be Sachin? As an individual, he might be great. But his contributions towards Hinduism are very insignificant. I mean relative to modi or Advani. 

Sachin was a true disaster from a Captaincy standpoint.
