I am not expert but based on what I read here and there, diplomacy is not what we see in TV and news paper. There are always back channels. Even in cold-war era US and Russia had their back channels to deescalate things. 

It is like marriage. You fight once in a while but you don't break relationship

Maldives present stand is because of its present ruling govt which is temporary…evadu ruking lo vundu ani chusi aid ivaledu kada, it serves a noble purpose.
