Visiting chicago-Suggestions please

I'm visiting Chicago for the first time. Suggest places/activities to do within the city. 

Also, like to cover any nice places in neighboring states if possible. Would appreciate any good suggestions.

Its winter man. Lot of must see places will be closed like sears tower.
