If there is one reason why India is still respected by many countries in the world, it is for the culture and most importantly, it is the tradition followed by the girls which stands as the essence of a woman.

In that aspect, our society has also given importance to the concept of virginity in men and women. Ideally, physical relation before marriage is still considered a taboo. However, with the western influence gaping strongly on today’s generation and globalization becoming the name of the game, even our culture is being left to the winds. While youngsters of today might argue what is the big deal about virginity, it is not about maintaining a seal.

The deeper meaning to that is about holding your integrity and a test for your character that can swear loyalty to one person for the rest of your life. However, ideal as it may sound, reliable sources are revealing that virginity is lost right at the college level. With access to mediums like internet and the constant ranting of the electronic media about rapes, sexual assaults, illicit relationships, the tender minds are getting impacted in a big way. It is also the hormonal effect and the hot headed nature of the teens that is also resulting in such acts of impulse and regret for lifetime. While that may be the flaw of the system, a large responsibility is also on the elders of the home and other mentors who must educate the college goers about the consequences of such acts. The issue is not about holding onto virginity, it is about the psychological and the emotional impact of an individual at that age.

A recent incident in Rourkela College where a contest was held between guys and gals shocked many. The contest is that the guys should hold a lipstick between their lips and apply that to girls’ lips with accuracy and speed. That raised eye brows of many people. Media also took special interest in showcasing that.

While the new age feminists might consider this to be a trivial thing, if they introspect for few seconds about that, they don’t need any explanation or evidence on how their lives have gone through bumpy rides if they crossed the line in college. Take care of yourself folks and to those who are parents of teenagers, take care of your sons and daughters.
