I think you got very lucky.. free Darshan usually have a 15 to 24 hr waiting.. you can check it online too… 

my family goes to volunteer seva and Hundi seva at Tirumala very often.. both my family and my in laws too.. this is their opinion..

free darshan ki tickets isthunnaru, ticket lekapothe problem...limited people la ga chesaru ,public ki ibbandi lekunda..maa Cousin last yr 8 times velladu...this yr 2 times velladu already...

below 1 yr ids vent into darshanam vend..trust ki donate chewing vallaki inkoti vundi...flight lo travel chewing vallaki 10k is the. break darshanam vundi, 300 tickets vunnayi..ivi Kakkunda sea tickets ani kalyanam ani chala vunnayi..

10k donation tickets kooda limited ,only 500..indulo 100 flight travel chesina vallaki ..may be next yr varaku ivi kooda only online lo issue chestharu like 300 tickets..

public ki ibbandi lekunda limit chesaru ...

I didn’t say there is no free Darshan… it is getting more and more difficult for people to have free Darshan… even the 300 Darshan and free ticket for ppl who come by walk, they all became limited and thus very crowded… 

bottom line, they are trying to increase the ticket prices so that it is easier for rich ppl and difficult for poor people… 

this is not just Jagans fault.. but over the years, all ttd managements are doing the same.. now with Jagan, we are seeing Christian influence both in tirumala and tirupati also..

Am not sure if people understand what waiting time means. The waiting time is the time from when you get your sudarshan token and the time you get into the Darshan queue. Time to complete the Darshan from the time you get into the queue is generally a max of 4-5 hours. During Brahmotsavalu or some such day, you might spend an additional 4 odd hours. But, other than that, Dharma Darshanam is not all that bad and it still exists.

It is not making it any difficult for poor people. It definitely is milking the rich which is actually ok. Just like how you have a first class/business class for people who can afford it, they have commoditized faith.

Last 4 years la twice vellina, I personally felt the experience is only getting better. One of my family member is averse to buy tickets for darshan and opts only free darshan, sudershan ticket teesukuni, time ki queue enter avuthe max 4-5 hours la ayipotadi and sometimes with in two hours la ayipotadi…..there are days when it gets very busy but such days are less than 50 in an year.

Annadaanam food chaala baagundi…same menu rice sweet pachadi sambar rasam curry buttermilk.. in fact aa rice ee type ani adiga.. not sonsmasoori,bagundi rice..chaala fast ga digest ayyindi..pacha pulkas athi choosi nenu anukunna edo change ayyindemo ani.. but reality lo chaala better ayyindi, next coming yrs lo online lo chesukovadam, darshanam chesukovadame, free darshanam always vuntadi..may /June lo results vachaka konchem crowd vundochu anthe..inka next 1 r 2 yrs lo 10k tickets ki demand peruguthadi choodu, public daggara money vundi, daaniki kooda 1 hr paduthadi…

I always prefer going via Dharma Darshanam and have food at vengamamba. The experience has not changed in the last 10 years, if at all any, it is getting better with passing years. The only time I go for special darshanams is when I go along with my family/extended family as they would want to walk less or attend a specific seva. Paccha tammullu cheppina antha bad aithe naaku eppudu kanipinchaledu.
