its a broad question... depends on which group of people.

depends on which tier (towns and villages)

caste and their personal group. ( some parents groups boast how much dowry they get in their friends and family circle)

depends if girl is working and how much she makes

depends on love vs arranged ( arranged dating)

financial status of both parties
