I applied in tatkal...received PP in 2 days...probably a month after I think police went to my home and asked my neighbors and my mom about me and left

Yes… recently I renewed and a police showed up to verify my application ….

i think its a new thing, from 2021 they started doing this.

for my cousin , police called him in the middle of night  and asked random questions

Neenu last month chesaaa , no police verification for my application.... Note that this is my 2nd renewal in USA and same consulate

Assalu police verification endhi I renewed in 2021 no verification Houston consulate got my new passport in 1month.

In your case, not sure about someone asking for docs in India, its unusual, why would they need all the docs when they just have to verify address?

Last month renew cheyencha family ki, no police verification. Infact , 4 renewals cheyencha in US for my family members including myself . No police verification

Applied in tatkal, first got PP in two days. No one at home. Then police called me on whatsapp asked me to send aadhar, 10th class certificate, old passport copies in whatsapp. Thats it.

Yes police verification autundi .. I applied in tatkal this Jan

I think second passport renewal in US aiyte there will be no police verification in India. 
My friend last passport was renewed in US in 2013 and then in 2023 when he did passport renewal in US again he said there was no verification in India.
