This seat has been held by BJP since 1989 - so even if the elections were to have happened - this would have been a safe seat for BJP.

Having said that - this is a first for me - I've never heard of this sort of a thing happening at least from the time I've started following politics.

The nominations of both the Congress candidates were rejected due to discrepancies in the signatures of proposers in the nomination forms after they were found not to be genuine, as per the returning officer. The proposers had filed an affidavit saying they never signed on the form of these candidates. The Congress has decided to approach the high court against the decision.
